January 1, 2010, Newsletter Issue #266: The Road to Paradise

Tip of the Week

The family took a little excursion yesterday to the Strasburg Railroad. The kids loved it. The railroad is located in the Pennsylvania Dutch region and besides the steam locomotive you’ll see plenty of Amish folks. I recommend if you’re ever thinking about a family vacation, to the area, consider a day or two visit to region, it’s quite unforgettable. The road to paradise is aptly named for the short steam engine tour you take down the rail from the East Strasburg Station to Paradise, Pa. The oldest commuter train in America has been running for 177 years. It’s so old President Lincoln rode the lines back in 1861 en route to Lancaster, Pa. The road to paradise is a notable historical experience for adults and great fun for kids. We had a memorable time.
We take short trips, mostly on Sundays, to local points of interest not only to have the girls appreciate their country, but also have them experience the local culture and diversity of our part of the world.
This weekend, or the next, look around your domain and find what makes the region historically unique. Plan a day trip to an attraction and have some family fun. History is a powerful way to tie us back to a much simpler time, appreciate our modern lives and, in our case, have the kids experience a ride much like the 16th President of the United States did 177 years ago.
Have a great day and God Bless.
